History of sports shooting

Shooting sport is one of the ancient applied sports. It originates from archery competitions. With the advent of firearms in the 14th century, shooting competitions began, first with smoothbore guns, and later with rifled weapons. Rifle and pistol shooting competitions were included in the program of the first Olympic Games in 1896, and since 1887 world championships in bullet shooting began to be held regularly. Rifle and pistol shooting competitions are included in the program of the Olympic Games and international competitions. Baron Pierre de Coubertin, the founder of the modern Olympic Games, was one of the initiators of the inclusion of shooting competitions in the program of the Olympic Games. He himself was a seven-time French champion in pistol shooting.

A major role in the development of shooting sports in Tajikistan was played by the sports society "Dynamo" and the voluntary society OSOAVIAKHIM, which was later transformed into DOSAAF. Physical culture and sports were considered as a means of physical education and health improvement of the people, preparing them for work and defense of the Motherland. Shooting sport, which is of great practical importance, has become the subject of attention of public and departmental organizations. Basically, shooting sports had a military focus and consisted of shooting from rifles of 7.62 mm caliber at 300 and 400 meters. At the same time, shooting was carried out in a gas mask and without it, as well as at the speed of firing shots for 5 minutes.

In 1936-1941. many sports developed rapidly in Tajikistan, including shooting. The first world champion (1958) and European champion (1959) from Tajikistan is Anatoly Tilik from Dynamo (shooting from a rifle). After him there were many more international-class shooters such as: Evgenia Galuza (Torkina), Andrey Vasilyev, Sergey Vasilyev, Dilorom Lagutenko (Dzhuraeva), Galina Rashidova, Surayo Dzhumaeva, Sergey Babikov and many others, on whom the young generation of Tajik shooters.

In total, 15 sets of awards are played at the Olympic Games in bullet and clay shooting.
